Curtain Care & Maintenance Guide
Preserving the Beauty of Your Bespoke Curtains
Each Italian Royals curtain is handcrafted with exceptional fabrics and meticulous detailing. Proper care ensures your curtains retain their beauty, drape, and texture for many years. Please follow the care instructions below to maintain the luxurious finish and longevity of your investment.
- Everyday Handling & Operation
- Gentle Movement:
Always open and close your curtains by holding the leading edge (the inner vertical edge) — not by pulling the fabric itself.
This prevents stretching and keeps pleats neatly aligned. - Avoid Direct Force:
Never tug the curtains or use excessive pressure on cords or tracks.
Use smooth, steady motions when drawing them open or closed. - Avoid Obstructions:
Ensure furniture, radiators, or handles do not press against the curtain fabric to prevent creasing or damage over time.
- Routine Dusting & Light Cleaning
Luxury fabrics collect dust naturally over time, especially in bright or high-traffic areas.
- Frequency: Light clean or dust your curtains every 2–4 weeks.
- Method:
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment on low suction to gently remove dust.
- Start from the top and move downward following the pleats.
- For delicate fabrics (silk, velvet, linen), use a handheld garment steamer to refresh fibers and maintain drape.
- Alternative:
A soft microfiber cloth or feather duster can also be used to gently remove surface dust.
Tip: Regular light cleaning extends the lifespan of your curtains and reduces the frequency of professional cleaning.
- Spot Cleaning (Minor Stains)
If small marks or stains occur:
- Act Quickly: Treat the spot as soon as possible — once a stain sets, it becomes harder to remove.
- Use Gentle Products:
- Use a clean white cloth and gently blot (never rub) the stained area.
- For water-safe fabrics, use lukewarm water and mild detergent or fabric-safe upholstery cleaner.
- Test First: Always test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before applying it to the stain.
- Avoid:
- Bleach, alcohol-based, or harsh chemical cleaners.
- Excessive moisture that can leave water rings or alter fabric texture.
Note: For delicate fabrics such as silk, velvet, or embroidered materials, professional cleaning is always recommended.
- Professional Dry Cleaning
All Italian Royals curtains are made with fine textiles that often require professional dry cleaning only.
Please refer to your fabric’s specific care label.
- Frequency: Every 12–24 months, depending on exposure to sunlight, dust, and humidity.
- Before Cleaning:
- Inform your dry cleaner that the curtains are custom-made luxury drapery.
- Request low-heat pressing and steam finishing rather than high-temperature ironing.
- Lining Care:
Ensure that both the main fabric and the lining are cleaned together to avoid color or texture differences after cleaning.
Caution: Never machine wash or tumble dry luxury curtain fabrics.
- Sunlight & Fading Protection
- Limit Direct Sunlight:
Prolonged exposure to strong sunlight can fade or weaken fabric fibers.
Use sheer liners, privacy or blackout lining or UV-protective lining to preserve color vibrancy. - Rotate Periodically:
If only one side of your curtain receives heavy sunlight, occasionally switch panels to balance exposure.
- Humidity & Environment
- Avoid prolonged dampness or moisture near windows or air conditioning vents.
- Keep curtains away from radiators, heating ducts, or humidifiers to prevent fabric shrinkage or warping.
- For homes in humid climates, consider occasional airing — open curtains to allow air circulation and prevent mildew buildup.
- Storage (If Temporarily Removed)
- Clean Before Storing: Always clean curtains before storage to prevent dust or stains from setting.
- Folding:
- Roll, don’t fold, delicate fabrics like silk or velvet to prevent crease lines.
- Use acid-free tissue paper between folds.
- Storage Conditions:
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
- Avoid plastic bags; use cotton or muslin fabric covers for breathability.
Italian Royals Recommendation
To preserve the beauty and longevity of your curtains:
- Do dusting of your curtains at least once in 2 or 3 weeks. Velvet curtains may need more dusting when compared to other fabrics depending on the dust in the environment.
- Light vacuum once a month
- Dry clean once every 12–18 months
- Protect from sunlight, moisture, and heat
- Handle with care and elegance — just as they were crafted.
Your Italian Royals curtains are designed to grace your home for years to come — timeless, elegant, and enduring. With thoughtful care, they will continue to drape beautifully and reflect the refined sophistication synonymous with the skilled craftsmanship that they come with.
